OFF TO UNI?  It is not compulsory to re-register at a local GP practice. If you anticipate returning home regularly you are able to stay registered with Walford Mill Medical Centre.

You can continue receiving repeat medication to a local Pharmacy near your University whilst registered at Walford Mill Medical Centre. Just let us know the details of your chosen pharmacy prior to requesting your repeat prescription in the usual way and we can send this electronically.

Please note, certain medications cannot be sent electronically, however, we can advise you if this is the case. You will still be required to attend medication review and monitoring appointments.

If you have a long-term health condition or will be spending the majority of your time away, it may be sensible to register with a local GP practice of your choice.

Phlebotomy(blood test) Appointments.

We apologise that some patients are being affected by a change to provision of phlebotomy appointments & ask for your understanding as to the background.

  1. The hospitals are contracted to undertake blood tests requested by Secondary Care (Hospital Drs & Specialists). For many years we have accommodated requests for Secondary Care blood tests but this reduces our provision of services which can’t be provided elsewhere (ecgs, dressings, smears, our own blood tests etc).
  2. Wimborne Hospital are contracted to provide INR blood tests & Primary Care (GP) blood tests. 01202 856471 to book an appointment.
  3. Everyone can access Phlebotomy clinics at Boots, The Dolphin Centre & Canford Heath. 01202 448087 to book an appointment.

Patients with Secondary Care bloods & significant health issues affecting ability to travel, will continue to be considered individually.

We really appreciate your understanding. Our aim is to provide a timely & equitable service for all our patients.

We are working to improve access to appointments for our patients, in particular at evenings and weekends. If you would like to be offered one of these appointments, please ask. These appointments may be at a different site; for example, Poole General Hospital.

Travel vaccinations

If you are travelling abroad this year and are unsure if you will need vaccinations please come into the surgery and complete a travel questionnaire, our travel nurse team will access your form and advise if you are needing any vaccinations before you travel.

This service does get very busy, please ensure that you are checking your travel needs well in advance of the travel date as we are not able to offer last minute requests.
